At its Unpacked event in Seoul, Samsung has officially taken the covers off its highly anticipated (and highly leaked) Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Fold 5 smartphones.

We’ll dive into each phone’s details below. Before that though, the new phones are set to hit store shelves on August 18. You can pre-order each model now (and enjoy a nice little bonus if you do).

Pricing starts at $1,649 for the Z Flip 5 and $2,599 for the Z Fold 5. You can see a full breakdown of pricing at the bottom of the story.

So what makes these new phones special? Let’s break it down.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 – All about personalisation

Samsung put a lot of focus on the personalisation aspect of the Flip 5 during its Unpacked presentation.

The most obvious difference between the new model and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is what Samsung calls the new “Flex Window”.

The 3.4-inch exterior display is now 3.78 times larger than the previous generation. It offers a wide range of customisation options, including informative and graphical clocks and stylish frames.

You can use widgets to check weather or control music. A quick pinch of the screen and you get a quick view of all widgets at once.

Because the exterior screen is so much larger, you can also use it to type out a message. Or use it to access Samsung Wallet cards or digital keys nice and easily.

The camera also benefits from the larger Flex Window exterior screen, allowing you to take hands-free selfies using the rear camera, and then edit shots as well.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 – All about power

Samsung have slimmed down this generation of Galaxy Z Fold. The phone measures in at 67.1 x 154.9 x 13.4mm folded and 129.9x 154.9 x 6.1mm unfolded. It weighs just 253 grams.

You get a 7.6-inch main screen gets a brightness boost by about 30%, helping it to be much easier to see in bright lighting conditions.

For this generation, Samsung has added delivered improvements to Taskbar, allowing users to quickly switch between four recently used apps.

Features like two handed drag and drop and multi-window control also help the phone become much more of a productivity tool than just another phone.

Powering the device is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which offers enough juice to enable both multitasking and productivity features, plus make it an ideal device for gaming.

An advanced cooling system to dissipate heat from the phone helps ensure the phone won’t run too hot or burn through its battery too quickly either.
