Motorola’s Edge family of smartphones has always balanced style and substance in the midrange. Its latest models, the Moto Edge 50 Pro and Moto Edge 50 Fusion, are no exception, combining an iconic design with AI functionality to deliver a compelling family of devices.

Motorola has also partnered with Bose for its latest earbuds, the Moto Buds+, which pair nicely with the Edge 50 Pro for Dolby Head Tracking functionality.

Let’s take a closer look at the new models, shall we?

Motorola has really leaned in on the design elements for the Edge 50 Pro. The phone comes in two vegan leather colours – Black Beauty and Luxe Lavender – with a third special edition version called Moonlight Pearl also on offer.

The Moonlight Pearl version is handcrafted in Italy, with a unique pattern for every version.

Motorola has been offering its phones with a vegan leather finish for a little while now, and from personal experience while reviewing the g84 it’s a nice alternative to the slippery glass or plastic finish on most smartphones.

The other key focus of the Edge 50 Pro is its camera array. Motorola has packed in the widest aperture of a smartphone with its main 50MP sensor at f/1.4, which allows for better low-light photography.

There’s also a 10MP camera with a 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilisation, while the selfie camera also boasts a 50MP resolution.

Motorola has also packed in a bunch of AI features to help improve your photography, like focus tracking and adaptive stabilisation.

On the specs front, you get a 6.7-inch pOLED display with a 1220p resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate.

Powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 platform and offering up to 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage, it’s a reasonable offering for a mid-range device.

But Moto also popped in some battery smarts. The Moto Edge 50 Pro supports 125W charging, which will give you roughly 12 hours of battery life in just 5 minutes. It also supports 50W wireless charging, though you’ll need a special charging stand to really take advantage of those speeds.

The cheaper of the two new models, the Edge 50 Fusion boasts a 6.7-inch Full HD pOLED display and a 144Hz refresh rate and is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset.

A 5,000 mAh battery supports 68W fast charging, which promises enough juice for the day after a 15 minute charge.

Like the Edge 50 Pro, the Edge 50 Fusion is vibrantly coloured, ultra-thin and contoured. It’s available in Forest Blue, Marshmallow Blue with with a vegan leather finish and Hot Pink with a finer vegan finish that Moto says feels closer to suede than leather.

The Fusion’s main camera is a 50MP ultra pixel camera with a Sony sensor and optical image stabilisation. There’s also a 13MP ultrawide camera with macro mode, while the 32MP selfie camera uses quad-pixel tech for better low light performance.

Bose is one of the biggest audio companies in the world, so a partnership here is a good idea.

The Moto Buds+ offer Hi-Res audio playback, dynamic active noise cancellation and support Dolby Head Tracking for Atmos playback when paired with the Edge 50 Pro.

There’s enough juice for 8 hours of playback, while 10 minutes on the charger will give 3 hours of playback.
