Catch Connect is a joint venture between online retailer Catch.com.au and telco Optus. So it’s no surprise that Catch Connect’s prepaid plans offer great value at an affordable price.
All of Catch Connect’s plans are prepaid, so you pay up front and get the value you purchase to use over the expiry period.
Catch offers both long-expiry and 30-day expiry periods. You’ll get unlimited standard national talk and text on all plans, with varying amounts of data to use each recharge. If you want International calls, you’ll have to pay extra.
Catch only offers 4G connectivity on the Optus 4G Plus network, though so if you’re after 5G service you may have to look elsewhere.
In order to determine which Catch Connect prepaid plan is best, I dumped a heap of information into a spreadsheet and created some formulas. It’s the same sheet I used to map out the best mobile plans in Australia. I’ll explain it in further detail below how it works.
But first, a disclaimer:
This “best guide” is a point in time analysis of Catch Connect’s prepaid offerings. I don’t have the resources to update it every day. I will come back and try to update it frequently, but there is a good chance Catch will change its plans and then this page will become outdated.
You should always check details closely, and make your own decisions. The method below is how I determined what I thought was best, but you can do the same analysis to find what’s right for you.
These are the best value Catch Connect prepaid plans, ranked in order
How we chose the best Catch Connect prepaid plans
Prepaid plans involve you paying up front for access to a mobile network, with a set of inclusions during that time.
Those inclusions are typically in the form of calls, texts, and data.
You get a certain amount of all three to use within a given recharge period. Once that period is over, any unused inclusions are typically gone, unless the plan offers some form of rollover for recharging.
To determine the best Catch Connect prepaid plan, we analysed the amount of data, the cost and bonus inclusions across Catch’s prepaid plans.
Just to make that point a bit clearer, this guide only applies to new prepaid plans. There are additional recharge values for existing customers that we did not consider here.
The data analysis
Once we had all the data in a spreadsheet, we divided the total price by the recharge period to get a “cost per day” figure. We did the same for included data to get a “data per day” figure.
Catch’s plans don’t include International inclusions, so we skipped that information.
To determine the final ranking of what was best, we applied a weighting to each component’s rank, where 60% was assigned to price per day, and 40% to data per day. We combined these to arrive at a final ranking score.
(We also applied a weighting across all providers based on their average plan rank. But because we’re only looking at Catch Connect on this page, it doesn’t really factor in).
What you should know about Catch Connect prepaid plans
Catch focuses on providing value through low prices and ample data, without additional extras like international calls or 5G services.
A few of the plans offer bonus data offer, boosting the amount of data you get for the first recharge.
These offers are always limited time offers, so make sure you check the fine print before you sign up.
International calls and texts
If you need to make an overseas call, Catch offers International Extras packs that allow you to pre-purchase value for International values.
There are two options available. Both have a 30 day expiry and include unlimited SMS and MMS to international numbers.
The $5 option includes 100 minutes of calls to 32 selected countries, while the $10 option has 300 minutes.
Check Catch’s website for more details on the countries available.
Need more data
If you need more data before your recharge has expired, Catch Connect will sell it to you.
It has an independent expiry period lasting 30 days, and costs $10 for 1GB or $15 for 2GB.
