Eufy S350 Indoor Cam review: Cute robot design, solid image quality

The Eufy S350 indoor camera may look like a character from Wall-E, but inside is a solid indoor security camera with plenty of intelligent features.

  • Great image quality from dual lenses
  • On-device storage
  • 360 degree coverage
  • Privacy mode is useful
  • Certain functions hard to find in app
  • Images can be grainy at a distance
  • No Apple HomeKit integration

You would be forgiven for thinking at first glance that the Eufy S350 indoor security camera was a toy robot.

The combination of a 4K wide-angle lens and a 2K telephoto lens makes the camera resemble the lovechild of Wall-E and his friend Eve – if robot reproduction worked that way.

It’s cute, and makes the camera a little more friendly having it installed in the home.

But the real selling point here is the “AI-powered” tracking, intelligent software and full 360 degree coverage. It’s not cheap, but if you want an indoor security camera, the S350 does an impressive job.

Eufy S350 Indoor Cam review: Design

The Eufy S350 looks more like a robot than a security camera. This makes it a bit easier to have around the house, watching your every move, though it can also be a little disconcerting when it turns its head to watch you when you enter a room.

The camera is pretty small, though not overly discreet. It measures just over 10 cm high, 8 cm wide and 6.5 cm deep. You can install it just about anywhere, including inverted on the ceiling, though it works just as well resting quietly on a shelf.

There are two camera lenses in the S350. On the left is a 4K lens with a 130-degree field of view and an f/1.6 aperture. On the right is a 2K telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom and an f/1.6 aperture.

The camera also offers black and white night recording, which is clear and fairly easy to see as well.

While the zoom lens only offers a 3x optical zoom, the camera can combine the two lenses to deliver a hybrid 8x zoom, which is still pretty clear, and helpful to see things happening on the far side of a room.

The camera offers 360 degree pan and tilt, so it can cover the entire room fairly easily. It also boasts a privacy mode, which will flip the head around to face the wall so you don’t have a creepy robot watching you all day.

The S350 comes with a MicroSD card slot, so you can locally record up to 120 hours of footage on that, rather than needing a subscription and uploading them to the cloud. You can get a subscription and upload to the cloud, but you don’t need to.

While the S350 integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, the Eufy Security app will be your main interaction with the S350 camera.

The app is solid, offering a massive range of features to access and control your camera, though it can be a little confusing to navigate through the options at times.

For example, putting the S350 into “Home” mode or “Away” mode (and defining what that means for each of them) is done through the “Security” tab at the bottom of the screen.

But to pop the camera in and out of privacy mode, you need to hit the tiny eye symbol on the picture in the “Devices” tab.

Once you get used to it, it’s much less of a challenge.

The app also lets you define areas of interest to keep an eye on, which is particularly useful for kids and pets. Though again, actually finding that setting in the app can be a challenge.

Eufy S350 Indoor Cam review: Performance

The Eufy S350 on a bookshelf

Once you’ve set up the S350 camera, you can either forget it’s there unless something happens, or you can use it constantly to watch the inside of your home. Either way, the process is effortless.

The S350’s integrated AI detection will automatically register when a human or a pet enters the room, and can create a short recording when that happens and send you a push notification.

The camera will track the subject around the room and zoom in on the movement, so you can clearly see who it is and what they are doing. If it’s an intruder, you can set off a manual alarm (or have it go off automatically if the camera is set to “Away” mode), to scare them off.

You can also talk through your phone through the speaker on the camera, which will confuse your pets to no end.

You can also get push notifications for sound detection, and a there’s a beta mode for when it detects crying, making this a great option for a baby monitor.

Image quality is decent, particularly during the day or when the room is well lit. The camera does a good job of recognising people across a room, but when you try to make out some finer details, the image is a bit grainy and difficult to see.

Up close, there’s no issue, and the image quality is great.

Night vision offers similar performance, though in black and white. Up close, you can see plenty of detail, but from across the room it’s harder to make out.

Eufy S350 Indoor Cam review: Verdict

There was some reluctance among my family members when I told them I was testing an indoor security camera. They would rather not have private moments in their home filmed.

The fact that the S350 records footage locally, rather than to the cloud, helped convince them it was okay, as was the fact I could turn on privacy mode and have the camera face the wall.

Ultimately, though, someone buying this camera is looking for that extra level of security, and when it comes down to it, the Eufy S350 is a solid choice.

It offers good quality video recording and intelligent subject tracking. It is versatile with its modes and settings, and can seamlessly connect to a larger Eufy security network, all managed through the Eufy Security app.

The S350 isn’t the cheapest indoor camera on the market, but if your budget allows it, and you want that feeling of security, this camera is a solid option.
